Wildlife Waystation
The Wildlife Waystation is a 160-acre private animal sanctuary located in the Angeles National Forest just north of Los Angeles, California. They are home to over 400 wild and exotic animals comprising over 125 different species. Their dedicated staff and volunteers are devoted to providing a place of refuge, healing, and safety for animals in need. Their sanctuary is supported solely by the generous donations of individuals and foundations worldwide.
Every year our third graders put together a fundraiser to help raise money for The Wildlife Waystation. Sunland Elementary is a big part of helping take care of Bolero the Lion.
Bolero the Lion
Bolero was supposed to be an entertainment animal and even appeared on the Jay Leno Show twice. But Bolero was not interested in being a “movie star” and the Wildlife Waystation gladly agreed to have him come to live with them. However, stardom could not escape Bolero. His size, majestic looks, and personality have made him very popular with volunteers and staff – a real star at the Waystation!
Some of Bolero’s favorite past times are playing with his very big boomer ball and digging into an enrichment box full of treats.
Ways to Help
As a non-profit organization, the Wildlife Waystation is dependent on donations, sponsors, bequests, members, and grants to raise the revenue necessary to care for all their animals.
